bunk house burgers

The Deux Burger is only available on the lunch menu, so plan accordingly. Head to the Arts District for a great burger served on what may be Los Angeles’s best patio. The burger at Everson Royce Bar starts with a single patty of prime beef chuck that’s topped with Tillamook cheddar and Dijonnaise sandwiched between an egg brioche bun. In total the burger clocks in at $11 for a single, which leaves room in the budget for a beer or a cocktail off its extensive bar menu. For a classy French burger in a wine bar, look to Le Champ in the Arts District.

Popular Lunch,

Allegedly, the cheeseburger was invented in Pasadena in 1926 when Lionel Sternberger accidentally dropped some cheese on the grill, and the rest is history. Now, there’s a great burger in practically every neighborhood whether it's a classic old-school cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, or a double smash burger with crispy edges and melted cheese. Here grass-fed New Zealand wagyu beef is served as a default double with onion jam, pickles, and plenty of lettuce. The patties are mustard grilled a la In-N-Out, and adding pastrami is always an option. The Valley’s breezy new French restaurant, Deux Bistro, serves a smash burger alongside a slate of bistro classics like poulet frites and French onion soup. The base of the burger is two smashed patties, topped with homemade pickles, Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, and tomatoes.

Griddled corn cake served with Peruvian slaw & a lime wedge

This thick, peppery, smoked burger is the toast of the town right now, in part because it serves as an antidote to so much smash burger fascination. Served with raw white onions and pickles to cut through the fat, this is undoubtedly the burger of the moment. South Bay burger fans can find one of LA’s best burgers at Proudly Serving’s permanent location in Hermosa Beach. In addition to the Proudly Serving double smash burger, find a pastrami burger, a brunch burger, and more, on the menu. In the land of smash burger ubiquity, it’s nice to see native son Alvin Cailan return to LA with a thick pub-style burger at Amboy Quality Meats and Delicious Burgers, tucked inside the former Chinatown home of Chego. The shop is always rotating through other styles, so expect something new and worthwhile just about every single day.

Don’t forget to use Bunk House’s rewards card, your ticket to a free burger after eight purchases. Watts’s most beloved meal is at Hawkins, where the loosely-formed beef patties arrive thick and impressive from time well spent on the griddle. This restaurant has stood the test of time and can trace its roots back to 1939.

The legendary Route 66 stand has been reborn (and reconstructed almost identically) by longtime chef-owner Sonia Hong and new partner Lawrence Longo. Expect weekend lines for these classic LA burgers, served with a sear but not too thin. The Big Irv comes with pastrami, a hot dog, and more on top. The ample seafood selections rightfully earn the most attention at Connie and Ted’s in West Hollywood, but in-the-know fans also swing through for the hook burger.

Everson Royce Bar

Lowboy may be known first and foremost as a bar, but it's the burger at this Echo Park neighborhood hang that makes it such a standout. Yet here is the Father’s Office burger, a no-ketchup-allowed option served on a split roll and topped with caramelized onions and lots of arugula. This massive sandwich uses dry-aged beef and Maytag blue cheese for a remarkably different kind of burger. The burger isn’t on Yang’s regular menu, but it is worth seeking out at one of the restaurant’s burger nights.

Born from the nation’s obsession with beef coupled with the modern highway system, the humble burger can be high-end or low — grabbed quickly via drive-thru or sought out as a destination. It’s hard to say what makes a perfect burger, simply because there are so many different iterations of the seemingly simple beef and bun device. At Burgette, chef Sean MacDonald serves French takes on the all-American burger. It’s hard to overstate the importance of Tommy’s to the greater LA burger scene.

Order a cheeseburger, which comes with a choice of cheddar or Swiss, and chips on the side. Some of the hottest — and largest — burgers in town come from Billionaire Burger Boyz. Acclaimed Silver Lake vegetable spot Botanica has put “a very Botanica burger” on its menu. The burger starts with sustainably raised grass-fed beef and a locally made pain de mie bun to which herbs, chicories, onions, aioli, mustard, and goat gouda are added.

Most go to Chubby Curry for the eponymous curry, but the burger on the menu is a must-order. It’s a behemoth of a wagyu burger topped with caramelized onions and sandwiched between a golden brown bun. The best part is that it comes in at $18 for an eight-ounce patty. Here are nine of the hottest new burgers in Los Angeles, from a thick wagyu patty at a Beverly Hills curry shop to an Arts District pop-up adding aji sauce.

This Valley staple has drawn diners to Van Nuys since its opening in 1965. The move here is to keep things simple with standard well-griddled singles served with cheese on extra-squishy buns. Just make sure to have cash on hand and some patience, this cash-only establishment often comes with a bit of a wait. The few-frills food is done up in countless ways from the beachy towns of the South Bay to the heart of LA’s culinary movement. It’s no wonder that burgers appear on so many menus across the city. It is consistently served hot and fresh off the grill, and will always satisfy a craving. Attached to the Hotel Normandie in Koreatown, Cassell’s feels like it was plucked out of the 1950s with a lit-up pie cabinet and vintage signage. The burger here leans diner-style with its thick patty and fresh bun served up on a tray with checkerboard paper.

While smash burgers seem to be all the rage in LA, the cheeseburger at Yang’s is unapologetically thick. Everything in the burger is handmade, down to the bun which comes from Pine Cone Bake Shop. At legendary Venice dive Hinano Cafe, burgers are griddled right behind the bar.

For the legacy picks that have shaped the burger ecosystem, look to Eater’s list of essential LA burgers here. Pasadena claims to be the birthplace of the cheeseburger, and while the truth of such things is lost to history, there is no denying the enduring prominence of Pie ‘n Burger. On any given day, at either of its locations, the burger at Goldburger is the same great smash burger.

The Success of Off White Is Anything But Ironic 34th Street Magazine

Whether or not he oversaw the design of these sets, he deserves credit for making the men’s sartorial skirt feel about as practical and intriguing as just about any designer. Led by Bella Hadid in a minuscule electric-blue sheath dress, the cast of friends included Honey Dijon, Alton Mason, Joan Smalls, Amber Valletta, and Georgina Grenville. Time spent backstage inspecting the clothes—a wildly fresh experience after so long spent peering at garments through screens—showed the ultra-sophisticated precision tailoring of leather ( a cream skirt-suit; a pair of ice-blue and lavender coats) and a whole new approach to stamping Off-White’s identity through graphics. Abloh’s unmistakable cross-and-arrow logo—globally identifiable on Off-White hoodies on any street—is now minimized in a black and white logo print; a print knowingly set to compete on a level with that of any establishment Parisian fashion house.

Loses Mounted As Sales Dwindled

The idea that Off-White might become Dior in a generation or two, with designers fighting over creative directorships and continuing Abloh’s tradition of off-the-wall collaborations, is intriguing. But after today’s show, it’s hard to imagine Off-White will ever fade away. Besides a few bags which bore tiny Off-White badges, the collection’s message was in its clean proportions. Abloh’s tailoring at Vuitton was maximalist and complex; at Off-White, the way forward appears to be in classicism.

The Virgil Abloh phenomenon, or how the Off-White designer conquered the world

Effective immediately, Express named Mark Still as its new CFO. Express’ revenue dropped 40% in 2020 due to the pandemic mandating non-essential stores to close, equating to over $800 million in sales losses for the year. Express, a multi-brand fashion retailer whose portfolio includes Express Express , Bonobos, and UpWest, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and intends to close more than 100 stores. The move, according to the company, is to better position Express for stronger growth in the future.

JAY-Z Enters Trading Card Market With Investment in Certified Collectibles Group

A three-button herringbone topcoat and beautiful brown gingham belted blazer looked so simple and refined one could imagine a white-haired Loro Piana client sneaking into an Off-White boutique to try them on. (Before promptly removing the bright blue leather sleeve label.) Even the technical outerwear, like several bulbous down ski jackets in muted tones, were constructed with sleek suiting canvas. A few tartan shirt-skirt-trouser sets, on the other hand, were made with technical wool. Abloh explored a fascination with elegant, fluid tailoring in his final years, calling for a “human” approach to dressing rather than one defined by gender.

Designed alongside AMO.

In 2002, at only 22 years old, Virgil Abloh became Kanye West’s right-hand man, with his roles extending from merchandising to album artwork to set design. In 2009, Virgil Abloh interned at the fashion house Fendi in Rome, and soon decided to launch a concept store in his native Chicago alongside Don C, co-manager of Kanye West. Named RSVP Gallery, this concept store with green neon lights offered an exclusive selection of the hottest street designers and vintage couture pieces, and soon became a landmark for those in the know in Chicago. Virgil Abloh launched his first label, Pyrex Vision, in 2012, which saw Champion t-shirts and Ralph Lauren shirts printed with the Pyrex 23 logo. The brand soon gained popularity, inviting a creative crowd from Kanye West to A$AP Rocky to design exclusive capsule collections. From its beginnings, Pyrex was sold alongside the big fashion houses, in the most influential concept stores, including Colette in Paris, Union in Los Angeles, GR8 in Tokyo and Storm in Copenhagen.

In March 2024, Express received notification from the New York Stock Exchange indicating that the common stock of the company would be delisted, and trading of its common stock on the NYSE was suspended. In August of 2023, Express planned to lay off about 150 employees through 2024 to save $30 million but that move only represented a portion of the planned $120 million cost reduction effort. The company had taken cost reductions in 2023 and had planned to continue reducing expenses going into 2025. However, by filing for bankruptcy, the company has the opportunity to restructure its operations including renegotiating its many lease agreements that will remain after the closure of some of its stores. The men’s tailoring is sharply done—adult, if you will—but the jackets are distinguished by large circular rings embroidered over the chest pockets. These were apparently inspired by Meccano, the century-old model construction system designed by the English inventor Frank Hornby that might’ve prompted Abloh’s pursuit of architecture later on.

A White Knight May Save Express

That was the year that Virgil Abloh — the Illinois-raised then-22-year-old son of two Ghanaian immigrants (his mother was a seamstress) — graduated from the civil engineering program at the University of Wisconsin Madison. It was also the year Abloh met Kanye West and started designing his merchandise and album art.

In that conversation, he was also referring to the challenge of making an Off-White suitcase in collaboration with the 120-year-old German luxury luggage brand Rimowa (majority-owned by LMVH, which paid $716 million for an 80 percent stake in 2016). That suitcase — priced at $1,700 — was the most popular item among the teenagers who flocked to Hypebeast’s first New York streetwear festival this October. For a collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, Abloh designed a money clip that looks like a credit card. “Don’t let Zara and Uniqlo educate you on the price of a garment because that’s not fashion,” he once said. Your health is tied to that — a 99-cent nugget.” He has also collaborated with McDonald’s.

The hottest fashion brand in the world was built on irony and $1,000 sweatshirts

WHP Global is a company that has brought back many legendary brands and has a knack for providing brands with a clear focus and vision for success and expansion. At the same time, he still stands by stylist Ian Connor, a hip-hop staple who has been accused of rape more than 20 times. In a 2017 W profile that declared Abloh “King of Social Media Superinfluencers,” he named Connor as part of “inner circle,” alongside A$AP Mob’s creative director A$AP Bari, who has also been accused of sexual assault (video evidence leaked on Reddit just before he was arrested) and with whom Nike cut ties last year. Rihanna came to his Paris debut; Playboi Carti and Kid Cudi were models in it. Off–White can definitely do more to make its products accessible to the very individuals that it draws inspiration from. This is not to say, however, that it has not taken any strides in the interest of democratizing fashion.

In 2017, Off-White partnered with Nike to redesign 10 of the company’s best-selling and classic styles. There are basically no words for how popular and how difficult to purchase this line of sneakers has been. Though the starting price points were around $200, most available pairs seemed to end up in the hands of celebrities, and resale prices now hover north of $1,000. As perplexing as it was when kids lined up and paid $1,000-plus to buy a literal brick released by Supreme two years ago, at least it was clear that it was in some ways a joke. It’s extremely expensive streetwear — primarily T-shirts and hoodies and sneakers — beloved by the teenagers of Reddit, the rich club kids of New York and Milan, the pop stars and rappers in every magazine and on every social media feed, and much of the high-fashion elite, including Abloh’s day-one fan Marc Jacobs.

But it’s easy to see that the Milan-based fashion brand Off-White has 5.4 million Instagram followers and that founder Virgil Abloh has 3.1 million. It’s easy to see that Rihanna wears these clothes, and that the Nike Air Prestos designed by Abloh and released this summer were mentioned more than 250,000 times on social media and were so hard to buy that they are now available on resale apps at markups of around 450 percent. It is an undeniable tragedy that Abloh wasn’t able to see Off-White break into the most historic and elite and French sartorial category. Abloh was always more enamored with streetwear’s populist possibilities than with its aesthetics, and Off-White was at its core a populist project, a manifesto for how to infiltrate an industry that never really wanted to claim people like him. In his quest to build Off-White into a respected luxury house, couture was Abloh’s final challenge. Last year, LVMH took a 60% stake in Off-White, which meant Abloh had more than one of the top design jobs at the Vuitton parent company.

the house with a clock in its walls

An entertaining PG detour for gore maestro Eli Roth, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is a family-friendly blend of humor and horror with an infectious sense of fun. Using the Magic 8-Ball to learn the location of the clock underneath the boiler room, the three return. Florence defeats a snake guarding the room while the others pursue Isaac. The clock transforms Jonathan into a baby, except for his face which he'd shielded with cards.

The final act saves the film.

When he laments that Tarby does not see him as a friend, she suggests that he use a spell from a forbidden book to impress Tarby. On Halloween night, Lewis performs a necromancy spell in a cemetery, accidentally summoning a corpse of Isaac from his grave. Rick Dalton’s House from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

So when a friend of mine posted a picture of this house I knew I had to see it in person. It was a very short drive from Casa Walsh and was close to Eaton Canyon where I was hiking later that day. This house is picturesque and has a fabulous fairytale vibe to it. This list will continue to be updated as I visit more filming locations. Be sure to check back to see what else gets added to this list. The Hollyhock House was designed by Frank Llyod Wright for Aline Barnsdall though she quickly became disillusioned with the home and donated it to the city of LA.

You used to be able to tour the house but now the new owners only make it available to the public during special events. This is the only Neutra designed home that is available for tours. It is called the research house because it was built with a loan from a patron. A fire destroyed most of the house in 1963 and was rebuilt by Neutra’s son with the Dad’s oversight. Schindler came to California to work for Frank Lloyd Wright and supervise construction of the Hollyhock House. Today it's open as a museum, located in Malibu Lagoon State Park and open to the public for guided tours.

You can read more about my visits to the Gamble House here. There are so many incredible famous houses in Los Angeles. Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows.

My Experience at the Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival

The Doheny Mansion is on the Doheny campus of Mount St. Mary's College at 10 Chester Place, just south of downtown LA. It's in the South Adams area, which is full of more beautiful, classic mansions. This house's most outstanding feature is the lavish use of ceramic tile, produced by the famous Malibu Potteries. Black co-headlines the film with Cate Blanchett—who plays Mrs. Zimmerman, Jonathan's spinster neighbor—another actor known for her vamping.

The complex includes the main house, garage, and one other surviving structure. This International style residence predates the mid-century modern styles that followed it, but it feels like it could have been part of the case study movement of the late 1940s and 1950s. According to the Los Angeles Times, this house was newly built but the owner hadn't yet moved into it because of construction on the Ventura Freeway, which now runs behind it. If you're a real fan, you may notice that this home looks shorter than the one in The Brady Bunch shows.

It housed his office and two families on a small 60 x 70-foot lot. When ten-year-old Lewis is suddenly orphaned, he is sent to live with his Uncle Jonathan in a creaky (and creepy) old mansion with a mysterious ticking noise that emanates from the walls. The Brothers & Sisters house is the home of Nora Walker (Sally Field) in the ABC series. It's located in a lovely Pasadena neighborhood at 1640 Lombardy Road, near the Langham Huntington Hotel.

The Gamble House

the house with a clock in its walls

That was epic and a long time dream of mine to see inside this historic lloyd wright house. He also designed one of my favorite places in LA, the Wayfarers Chapel. The Derby House was built for businessman James Derby, though due to a separation with his wife he would never live here. The textile blocks are supposed to help keep the interior bright. From the photos that I have seen online the inside looks really interesting. After architect Rudolph Schindler came to California in the 1920s to oversee construction of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House, he designed his residence in West Hollywood.

The Gamble House in Pasadena is one of my favorite homes to visit. It is filled with fascinating details and a tour is well worth your time. I recommend visiting The Gamble House to admire the architecture and history as much as I recommend visiting it as a filming location.

The craftsman-style house is located near downtown Long Beach. North of Long Beach in San Pedro you can find the spot that was used for the school Anchor Beach on the series which you can read about in this post. The house from Young Sheldon is not in Texas, it is a short drive from the Warner Bros Studio where the tv series is filmed. If you take the Warner Bros Studio Tour you might get to see some places in the backlots where the show has been filmed but they never open up the sets in the soundstages for viewing. However, if you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory (and old Sheldon) you can see Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment and even sit in Sheldon’s spot. You cannot see the Boy Meets World house from the street.

The Brady Bunch house is located at Dilling Street in North Hollywood. The Gilmore Girls House is located on the Warner Bros Lot and can be seen on the studio tour as long as they are not filming in that area. Your best chance to see it is on the weekends when little to no filming is happening. For the last two Christmases, the studio has decorated the home for the holidays which has been incredible to see. This house is within walking distance from Fox Studios where the show was filmed so that worked out well for them.

Parking to take a photo at this particular home was not as easy as some of the others. The street is not very wide so you cannot pull off to the side very easily. Just be sure to watch out for the oncoming traffic and you’ll be fine. Several homes get a little bit of a transformation for their on-screen appearance. However, I think one of the homes that looks the most different is the house from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Over the years the color of the house has changed several times, the white picket fence is gone, but the unique shape is still recognizable.

Robinson’s department store when they started living in this mansion. The Eames House, also known as case study #8, is mid-20th century modern architecture. The house was designed by the couple Ray and Charles Eames to serve as their home and studio. Free street parking is available on Corona Del Mar which is a five-minute walk from the house. Self-guided walking tours of the exterior of Heritage Square Museum homes are currently available. I came here during the 2019 Museum of the Arroyo Day and really enjoyed it.

Will Rogers was a popular actor in the early days of Hollywood. In the 1920’s he bought land in Santa Monica and his 359 acres included some land that would later become part of Pacific Palisades. In the 1940s his wife, Betty left their 31 room ranch and the land to the California State Parks. Roth otherwise fails to get his actors to perform in the same scene.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls Movie Review

If you would like to visit Dunder Mifflin check out this post. This house is first shown in the “Frame Toby” episode and though it looks slightly different than it did in the show it is the actual location. The address for the Last Man Standing house is 611 Lorraine Boulevard in Windsor Square.

Jonathan confesses that he is a warlock and Florence is a witch. The house's previous owners were a sinister warlock named Isaac Izard, (an orphaned former friend of Jonathan's who was traumatized while fighting in WWII), and his equally wicked wife Selena. Isaac and Selena had apparently hidden a clock within the walls of the house before they died, and Jonathan has been trying to find the clock and discover its purpose. Despite Jonathan's cautions, Lewis begins teaching himself magic.

The John Sowden House

As a huge fan of The Golden Girls seeing their “Miami” house in person was a thrill! I recently had the opportunity to see the inside of the home when it went on sale as it turns out that I knew the realtor. I wasn’t feeling well the day I was supposed to go so I had to pass on the experience. I know it doesn’t look like the set but getting to go inside such an iconic house is a rare chance. Brandon and Brenda Walsh did not actually live in the zip code or Beverly Hills.

Movie and TV Houses in Studio City

the house with a clock in its walls

There are so many different ways that we are spoiled in Southern California but the incredible variety of homes that we can visit is truly something special. Please note that not all of the homes on this list are open to the public but I will make sure to specify which ones are available for you to visit vs which ones you can drive by. I have not been able to confirm if the grounds are still open to the public during COVID 19. The Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills feels like the perfect home to kick off this list with. Visiting the grounds of this beautiful mansion is a favorite of both locals and tourists. The area is stunning and has great views of the city too.

You won't find the porch swing or Fonzie's motorcycle parked on the front lawn, but, otherwise, the Happy Days house looks much the same as it did. You may find a private security guard driving around the neighborhood, though. The Happy Days house is at 565 North Cahuenga Boulevard. John Connor lives with his foster parents at this house in Canoga Park. It isn’t the most glamorous or stunning house to visit but for fans of the movie, it can still be fun to see. The Ennis House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924.

He changed an existing house and turned it into something truly unique. The neighbors may not have been thrilled with what the home became but it looks like something really fun to see in person. I visited the Hollyhock House in February of 2020 right before things got crazy with COVID-19. Thanks to a lecture series that was happening I was able to get visit this amazing home for free. Docents were placed throughout the home to offer insight but it was nice to get to walk around on our own. The biggest bummer is that you cannot take photography indoors.

Dead Again House

The house is owned by the MAK Center, which also runs the Schindler House and you'll find details about the tours at the MAK Center website. Director Eli Roth's first foray into family-friendly movies isn't a masterpiece, but it's just spooky and funny enough to entertain young moviegoers who are new to the horror genre. Black and Blanchett are an amusing pair, trading barbs, bickering, and working together to keep Lewis safe.

The House from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is located at 1848 Oxley Street in South Pasadena. The House where they filmed the basketball scenes is located at 500 North Almansor Road in Alhambra. Whether you are local to Los Angeles or are planning to visit this blog has been created with you in mind. I hope that by sharing my adventures I am able to help you discover new and exciting places in LA.

If you love arts and crafts architecture, this is the house for you. A well-preserved and fascinating example of Arts and Crafts architecture, designed by Greene and Greene, it was built in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company. Located on the Universal Studios backlot, it's been featured in many television programs and movies. It also served as one of the houses on Wisteria Lane in the popular television show Desperate Housewives. The Happy Days house was the home of the fictional Cunningham family in the sitcom filmed from 1974 to 1984.

It's one of my favorite places to go in LA and especially beautiful at twlight. The house is open for guided tours without appointment most Saturdays. Tour guides are architecture students from Cal Poly San Obispo. The house is located at the crest of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Mulholland Drive and is open for guided tours by reservation only.

You can see my photos of various movies and TV show houses from my visit to the Warner Bros Ranch. The house pictured is where the Heck family lived in The Middle. While the majority of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was filmed on location in Chicago, there were a few scenes that were filmed in the LA area.

the house with a clock in its walls

It is free to visit the grounds though occasionally the opportunity will become available to tour the inside for a fee. You can read about my visit here in my post on Greystone Mansion. The movie is technically well made, but its story is uneven in parts. It's young-kid friendly one moment and then unsettling the next.

And the menagerie of computer-generated monsters, which includes talking dummies and sentient jack-o'-lanterns, are slick-looking. Lewis returns to school with more confidence and gets back at Tarby and his friends by magically bouncing a basketball off their faces and into the basket, impressing his other classmates. He then befriends a girl named Rose Rita Pottinger, who appears to have a crush on Lewis.

This is immediately apparent in the scene where Jonathan invites Lewis into his magical home, the one haunted by a malevolent, ticking doomsday clock. Here, Jonathan playfully butts heads and ostensibly has a screwball rapport with Mrs. Zimmerman. Their dialogue isn't great, but Black often seems to be talking past Blanchett.

Ceiling Design Ideas for Every Type Of Space

Exposed beam ceilings evoke memories of bygone eras, of a leisurely, uncomplicated, and down-to-earth period. This type of ceiling is commonly seen in farmhouses, country homes, and rustic-styled homes. Juhi Advani, our in-house content writer, comes with 2 years of experience and a knack for storytelling.

Environmental groups challenged that rule, arguing it left a large amount of coal ash waste unregulated by the federal government. The rule issued Thursday forces owners to safely close inactive coal ash ponds and clean up contamination. “This barrage of new EPA rules ignores our nation’s ongoing electric reliability challenges and is the wrong approach at a critical time for our nation’s energy future,” said Matheson, whose association represents 900 local electric cooperatives across the country. The Biden rule comes nearly a decade after former President Barack Obama first tried to set limits on carbon pollution from U.S. power plants. His 2015 Clean Power Plan was blocked by the Supreme Court and later rolled back by Trump. WASHINGTON (AP) — Coal-fired power plants would be forced to capture smokestack emissions or shut down under a rule issued Thursday by the Environmental Protection Agency. Coal ash contains cancer-causing substances like arsenic and mercury that can leach into the ground, drinking water and nearby rivers and streams, harming people and killing fish. The EPA issued rules in 2015 to regulate active and new ponds at operating facilities, seven years after a disaster in Kingston, Tennessee, that flooded two rivers with toxic waste and destroyed property. A separate rule will reduce toxic wastewater pollution by 660 million pounds annually, according to federal officials.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the rules will reduce pollution and improve public health while supporting the reliable, long-term supply of electricity that America needs. Together, the climate law and the suite of EPA rules “are the biggest reductions in carbon pollution we’ve ever made and will put the country on the pathway to zero out carbon emissions,’' Doniger said. The proposal relies on technologies to limit carbon pollution that the industry itself has said are viable and available, Regan said.

Jim Matheson, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, called the EPA rule “unlawful, unrealistic and unachievable,” adding that it faced a certain court challenge. The rule disregards the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision that limited the agency’s ability to regulate carbon pollution under the Clean Air Act, Matheson said. The move to demolish came shortly after Pratt purchased the mid-century home in an off-market sale for $12.5 million in January 2023.

It’s also possible, as news columnist Anita Chabria notes, that the case could turn out to be a big nothing. Not only are there legal reasons why the decision might have little bearing on California’s homelessness policies, she writes; the court could also decide the case is now moot because of an Oregon law overruling Grants Pass’ onerous ordinance. The Los Angeles Police Department arrested approximately 50 protestors at the University of Southern California after campus police gave a dispersal order to demonstrators, according to a CNN crew at the scene. The University of Texas at Austin Police Department said in a statement on X Wednesday evening that "the dispersal order at the South Mall has ended. All University rules are still in effect."

Second, Trump doesn’t want the Republican caucus to turn into an embarrassing circular firing squad while he is running for president. (It’s remarkable that Trump is worried that other Republicans will make him look bad.) Third, Democrats have signaled that they will help Johnson keep his job after he courageously did the right thing. And finally, no one appears to want Johnson’s job who could also get the job.

"Metro riders deserve to be safe on the system, and we will continue to do all that," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who chairs the Board of Directors, said during Thursday's meeting. "We can keep not only our riders, but also our operators, safe, and I know that as a board, we will step up to this challenge because that's what frankly the people of Los Angeles deserve." Ellwood’s design for the single-family house was commissioned by couple Martin and Eva Zimmerman in 1949 and was featured in Progressive Architecture magazine shortly after, according to the Eichler Network, which covers mid-century California homes. In 2004, the house changed hands to its last owners, couple Sam and Hilda Newman-Rolfe. The hope is that the Community Health Profiles tool will be used to work toward a more equitable L.A. The information is available on the Department of Public Health's website.

Still, the regulation is expected to lead to greater use of carbon capture equipment. Only a handful of projects are operating in the country despite years of research. Pratt’s new home is adjacent to Shriver’s two homes, each valued at over over $10 million, carving out a family compound of sorts in the neighborhood. Ungar has designed several multimillion-dollar mansions, including modern farmhouses, in Los Angeles.

It would be similar to what we have gone through in the last few years with criminal justice labeling the police as bad because of a few bad actors. Of course, members of the latter group don’t admit to the impossibility of their goals; that would ruin the con. They insist that with enough willpower, particularly among their leaders, they could impose their will on the Democratic-controlled Senate and White House. They make that case on television, on social media and in floor speeches. And when they inevitably fail, they whine that they were “betrayed” by Republican quislings who collaborated with the Democrats, all while raising money off the notion that they’re courageous warriors who are willing to lose on principle. Instead, the agency would set caps on carbon dioxide pollution that plant operators would have to meet. Some natural gas plants could start blending gas with other fuel sources that do not emit carbon, although specific actions would be left to the industry. The EPA also tightened rules aimed at reducing wastewater pollution from coal-fired power plants and preventing harm from toxic pits of coal ash, a waste byproduct of burning coal. The rules initially included steps to curb emissions from existing natural gas plants, but Regan delayed that aspect of the rules until at least next year after some moderate Democrats and the gas industry warned that the plan could affect grid reliability.

The house is located in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, across the street from Pratt’s mother-in-law, former first lady of California Maria Shriver. The historic house will be replaced by a modern farmhouse designed by architect Ken Ungar, Architectural Digest reported, and is now in the early stages of construction. "Since the Israel-Gaza war began, journalists have been paying the highest price- their lives-to defend our right to the truth. Each time a journalist dies or is injured, we lose a fragment of that truth," CPJ Program Director Carlos Martínez de la Serna said in a statement. According to a preliminary investigation released Friday by the Committee to Protect Journalists, nearly 100 journalists have been killed covering the war in Gaza. Israel has defended its actions, saying it has been targeting militants. One organizer complained that the White House Correspondents' Association - which represents the hundreds of journalists who cover the president - largely has been silent since the first weeks of the war about the killings of Palestinian journalists.

The board said it is "urgently working" with Shafik to resolve the unrest on campus and "rebuild the bonds of our community." The university "supports free speech through open dialogue that is respectful and constructive," the officials said. Other buildings on the campus in Arcata are at risk of being occupied, and protesters “have shown a willingness” to lock themselves in facilities and steal equipment, the officials said. Work and classes will remain remote, and officials are considering keeping the campus closed for longer. Negotiations between protesters and Columbia University officials about clearing the encampment on its lawn that had been extended for 48 hours have been “unstable," said Esha Karam, managing director of Columbia Daily Spectator, citing student organizers. The university closed its campus Wednesday evening as LAPD began arresting demonstrators.

Gaetz and seven other Republicans, representing less than 2% of the country, were enough to oust McCarthy against the wishes of 95% of the Republican caucus, with Democrats uniformly hewing to the bipartisan tradition of refusing to support a speaker of the opposite party. In other words, the Republican firebrands, who think the worst sin imaginable is to work with Democrats, voted with Democrats to oust their leader. One is that the Republicans’ narrow House majority empowers the fringe. For the last few years, congressional Republicans have been split into factions that are not ideological in the traditional sense. Pick nearly any standard domestic policy issue — abortion, gun rights, taxes, immigration — and you won’t see much evidence of the schism. Even (public) support for Donald Trump doesn’t delineate the divide.

CT, 34 arrests have been made by law enforcement on the UT Austin campus, according to an X post from the Texas Department of Public Safety. In an evening update, the Texas Department of Public Safety said that 34 arrests had been made by law enforcement on the campus as of 9 p.m. A photographer was among those arrested during clashes between protesters and law enforcement on the University of Texas at Austin campus on Wednesday. The city launched a new initiative last year to help LA residents “adopt” vacant lots and turn them into parks and other public spaces. Ten city-owned lots were identified for a pilot program that could become a permanent way for communities to use city-controlled vacant lots. There are about 22,000 vacant lots in Los Angeles, about 10 percent of which are owned by the city.

House Speaker Mike Johnson called Wednesday for the resignation of the university’s president if she can't "bring order to this chaos." At one point during the demonstrations, tensions escalated as protesters refused to relocate and remove their tents and other prohibited items, a university official said. "The university is a private campus and the group had been violating some of their orders. It was a trespass at that point and we assisted with the arrests," Los Angeles Police Captain Kelly Muniz said during a briefing. The Los Angeles Police Department said 93 people were arrested on suspicion of trespassing during Wednesday's demonstrations at the University of Southern California.

The store says at least one of the accused individuals returned the stolen goods and apologized. To cut down on crime, the store now keeps the front door locked during business hours. First, few Republicans — including some who oppose Johnson — want to be seen following the lead of the House’s most notorious cranks and bigots.

A “one way in” for business owners, the Business Portal was designed to be a comprehensive resource to help you get your business off the ground — from how to register your business to how to access the resources available to you to help you succeed and grow. Earlier this month, I attended the 2024 AIM Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C., with more than 1,200 advocates from across the country. We have to continually strive to find those bad actors and remove them from the profession for the safety and betterment of our children.

Law enforcement, including the Secret Service, have instituted extra street closures and other measures to ensure what Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said would be the "highest levels of safety and security for attendees." Kelly O'Donnell, president of the correspondents' association, opened the event by reminding the audience of the important work that journalists do but noting that the dinner is happening at "a complex moment for our nation," and in a decisive election year. Criticism of the Biden administration's support for Israel's six-month-old military offensive in Gaza has spread through American college campuses, with students pitching encampments in an effort to force their universities to divest from Israel. Counterprotests back Israel's offensive and complain of antisemitism. Chants accused U.S. journalists of undercovering the war and misrepresenting it.

Natural gas provides about 43% of U.S. electricity, with the remainder from nuclear energy and renewables such as wind, solar and hydropower. In addition to declaring a public safety emergency, Metro's Board of Directors agreed to procure new safety barriers for bus drivers and taking other steps to enhance safety on the system. "We want to use the data to create change and give people power," said Bell. Within the latest launch of Community Health Profiles, users can find how many liquor stores may be in one city or how many kids are enrolled in preschool, information that can help develop intervention strategies, create policy and direct funding. It’s even more difficult when you don’t know where you’re supposed to go or what forms you need to fill out.The LA Business Portal changes that.

I have also read Liz Cheney's book "Oath and Honor, a Memoir and a Warning." When she appeared on the "Rachel Maddow Show" to promote/introduce her book, Ms. Cheney was introduced as (I paraphrase) “someone I disagree with about virtually everything” by Rachel. When she came on the set, Liz Cheney agreed the introduction was accurate and both women stated they looked forward to a time when they could debate all those other political issues. However, they were in absolute agreement that Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the democratic institutions of our country and thus he should never be allowed anywhere near the White House again.

That is thanks to every data point on their new Community Health Profiles tool, which represents a person, family and community. Thank you, Rep. The proximity of the crime scene to a Metro bus again raised concerns about safety on the transit system, which has seen multiple attacks on bus drivers in recent weeks, and a fatal stabbing on a B (Red) Line train in Studio City earlier this week. According to a statement from Metro, three people got into an argument aboard the Silver Line bus. Surveys of thousands of residents helped officials paint a complete picture of chronic illness, mental health and environmental impact in each geographic area. The numbers tell individual stories that can be used to direct locally-driven efforts. County residents live in areas where the life expectancy is 10 years longer than in other areas. Akil Bell with Black Women For Wellness said users can see what neighborhoods need attention, but the data can determine which specific changes need to happen.

While many brands want to maximize user-generated content (UGC), most of these are shot on mobile phones by ordinary people. When uploaded online, these pictures compress and pixelate because of their size. Then it will offer drawing suggestions created by different artists and designers to make your artwork look better. You can download your work as a PNG file and share it on social media from any device. Adobe Sensei makes images discoverable and lets you create high-quality graphics that automatically adjust to screen size and resolution. Aside from streamlining work processes, Adobe Sensei also helps you make better design decisions for marketing.

No matter which architectural style you prefer, Fotor can bring your vision to life. Say goodbye to creative fatigue, using AI design maker to generate creative AI architectural designs has never been easier. Coming up with effective prompts for AI is an art unto itself, a field known as prompt engineering. Learning the rudiments of prompt engineering, and how to write prompts that get you the output you’re looking for, is essential if you plan to use AI to aid your graphic design work.

How AI Mockup Generators Are Revolutionizing Graphic Design

Determining whether AI art tools violate copyright law can be challenging due to the sheer scale of the training database. Nevertheless, AI tools create new images based on the knowledge acquired during their training. Text-to-image generators that have been trained on images without, in the main part, the consent of rights holders and so are controversial. There are ethical generative AI coming soon, such as Shutterstock AI that pays contributors. While Midjourney and more of the best AI image generators are capable of great things, they are controversial because they have trained their models on images without the consent of the rights holders. For example, D&D artist Greg Rutkowski has had his art scraped; his hame is now a prompt.

AI algorithms can serve as valuable collaborators, providing designers with suggestions and ideas they might not have considered. In this blog, we will explore how AI is poised to shape the future of graphic design and how it will impact graphic designers. Human designers possess a unique ability to think critically, make subjective judgments, and infuse their designs with personal meaning. They have the capacity to adapt and respond to changing trends, cultural shifts, and individual client needs. Combining the power of AI with human creativity allows for a symbiotic relationship where technology enhances the creative process, rather than replacing it. Collaboration is a crucial aspect of graphic design, especially when working on projects with multiple stakeholders.

It’s a great choice for preparing images for print or digital media, turning even the most pixelated of visual assets into high-quality images. For example, in 2017, Nutella used AI-based algorithms to create one-of-a-kind jars known as “Nutella Unice”. The algorithm was able to put together patterns and colors to create millions of unique jar designs at the touch of a button. An ever-increasing number of businesses are implementing AI into their digital marketing. AI technology is helping marketers to save time and work smarter, whilst tailoring their advertising to individual users more than ever before.

In digital marketing, ensuring that you’re targeting the right audience is essential and AI technology is extremely valuable in this area. The AI technology first analyses the audience using data collected to identify their individual goals and requirements. Jasper.ai, an AI writing assistant, is designed to create compelling text to supplement your designs.

Type the instruction in a prompt field and watch what happens as your model rotates 360 degrees. AI can handle repetitive tasks such as organizing files, creating backups, and even suggesting file naming conventions based on the content. By offloading these tasks to AI, you free up more time to focus on the creative aspects of design, where human intuition and emotion play critical roles that AI cannot replicate. The current wave of AI mockup generators is impressive, but the future promises even more control for designers.

2) Machine learning also helps with mundane tasks like sorting through thousands of images for inspiration, generating logos, and even designing a website layout. The culmination and refinement of designing between 2D and 3D to create something in between, that does not exist in the world. Designed custom graphics and interior art for Google's refreshed Mountain View buildings to convey how spaces, people, and ideas are connected with a common thread.

“AI's impact on graphic design is speeding up the creative process and introducing new ways of thinking. It also helps from the initial stages of ideation and turning those ideas into finished designs. For instance, a designer working on a logo design can use AI-powered tools to generate different versions. AI's input can serve as a valuable source of inspiration to bring new ideas to the table. Moreover, AI-powered tools can also assist in bridging the gap between designers and clients.

For instance, an AI tool can automatically adjust the brightness and contrast of your images to match a specific style or mood you're aiming for, all without manual input. AI could become a design partner, recognizing design elements like color palettes, target audience demographics, and even brand guidelines. Based on this analysis, it could suggest mockups that resonate with the intended audience. For example, a logo with a playful font might be paired with a vibrant, cartoon-themed mockup, while a minimalist logo could be presented on a sleek, modern phone case mockup. The future of AI mockup generators is one of seamless integration with the designer’s existing workflow. Imagine a world where designers never have to leave their preferred design software like Photoshop or Figma.
